Walk Through Your Room Design in VR (Meta Quest 3)
A floor plan tells you whether furniture fits. Standing in the room tells you whether it feels right. Because Home Room Planner works at true 1:1 scale, you can export your design and walk around it at full size in a VR headset before you buy anything.
Why bother with VR?
On a screen, a 900 mm walkway and a 700 mm walkway look nearly the same. In a headset, standing between the sofa and the coffee table, the difference is obvious. VR is especially useful for:
- Judging how much a large piece like a sectional sofa, a wardrobe or an island will dominate a room.
- Checking sight lines: what you see from the front door, the sofa, or the kitchen bench.
- Getting a feel for ceiling height, especially in rooms with low or sloped ceilings.
- Showing a partner or family member a plan when they find drawings hard to read.
Step 1: Finish the layout
Build your room in the planner: dimensions, walls, floor, and furniture. VR will show every detail at full size, so check the clearances first in Floor Plan view (see furniture clearances). For a two-storey home, both floors are exported stacked in their real positions.
Step 2: Export the .glb
Click Export 3D in the top bar. The planner saves the whole scene as room-planner.glb to your Downloads folder. glTF Binary (.glb) is a standard, self-contained 3D format: geometry, colours and textures are all in one file, at metre scale.
Step 3: Copy it to the headset
With a cable: connect the Quest 3 to your computer by USB-C, put the headset on, and allow file access when prompted. On your computer, open the headset's storage and copy the file into Internal shared storage › Download.
Without a cable: upload the file to a cloud drive such as Google Drive or Dropbox, then open the cloud drive in the headset's browser and download it there.
Step 4: Open it in a 3D viewer
Open the .glb in any glTF/GLB viewer app from the headset's store. Look for an app that supports "1:1" or "real scale" placement. Once loaded, set the model on the floor, then walk around it physically (with a clear play space) or use the controller to move around.
Tips for a useful walkthrough
- Stand where you'll actually stand: in the doorway, at the kitchen sink, on the sofa. These are the views that matter day to day.
- Turn the ceiling off for an overview and on for realism. The ceiling toggle in the Room tab is exported with the scene.
- Use mixed reality if your viewer supports passthrough. Placing the model over your real empty room is a powerful way to check a renovation.
- Iterate. Note what feels wrong, adjust in the planner, re-export. Each export only takes a few seconds.
No headset?
A .glb opens on most computers and phones too. Windows includes 3D Viewer, macOS opens it with Preview or Reality Composer, and many web viewers accept a drag-and-drop. You won't get the sense of scale VR gives, but you can still orbit the room and share it with someone who doesn't have the planner open.
